VSSC Category Guide: Find Your Racing Class

Category A – Road Registered

For : Street-legal cars that are registered or on club permits.

Think : Your daily driver, weekend cruiser or lightly modified track car that’s still road legal.

Category B – Modified Production

For : Heavily modified road cars that mostly follow Improved Production (IPRA) specs.

Think : Stripped-out, tuned-up cars with more freedom in suspension, intake, etc.

Category C – Modified Sedans

For : Serious race-prepped sedans like Sports Sedans.

Think : Custom-bodied, engine-swapped beasts — usually not road registered.

Category D – Production Sports Cars

For : Log-booked sports cars like MX-5s, Lotuses, etc.

Think : Lightweight, nimble cars designed for handling — not outright power.

Category E – Racing, Clubman & Sports Racers

For : Purpose-built race cars, open-wheelers, kit cars, etc.

Think : Formula Vee, Formula Ford, Clubman, Radicals.

Category G – Historic Sports & Touring

For : Historic (log-booked) cars.

Think : Toranas, Mustangs, older sports sedans or open-wheelers with period-correct spec.

Category J – Non Log-Booked

For : Cars that don’t have a Motorsport Australia Logbook AND aren’t registered.

Think : Track-only cars that don’t fit other categories.

Category K – Open

For : Everything else — unusual or non-compliant cars.

Think : Time Attack cars, wild engine swaps, slick tyres, hybrid builds
