🏁 No Log Book? Welcome to the Naughty Corner.

Let’s set the record straight. The Victorian State Super Sprint Championship (VSSC) is a Motorsport Australia State Championship, not a casual club sprint or track day. That means higher standards, trophies, and some important rules around vehicle eligibility—especially when it comes to log books.

📝 Can You Compete Without a Log Book?

Yes—if your car is road registered and complies with Category A specifications, you can enter, compete, and even take home the outright championship without a log book.

But that’s only true while your car stays in that road-legal spec. The moment you step outside those limits—like fitting aero, pulling out interior trim, or running slick tyres—you’re into modified territory, and that means you’ll need a Motorsport Australia log book.

🧐 So
Does Your Car Need a Log Book?

Here’s the simple version:

  • If your car is currently road registered and looks more or less how it came from the factory—you’re probably fine without one.
  • If your car is not road registered, or has been heavily modified (like added aero, stripped interior, roll cage, slick tyres, etc.), you’ll almost certainly need a log book.
  • If you’re unsure—just ask. It’s easier to check now than be told “no” at scrutineering.

🏆 So Why Get Logbooked Anyway?

Even if you don’t technically need one right now, here’s why it’s still worth doing:

  • Future-proof your build – upgrade when you want, not when the rules force you to.
  • Faster scrutineering – logbooked cars sail through Targeted Scrutiny.
  • Clarity – no last-minute eligibility issues or confusion.
  • Credibility – you’re racing at state level. Having a log book shows you mean business.
  • Full access – no limits on classes, awards, or event types down the track.

🚩 Getting Logbooked Is Easy

  1. Book an inspection with a Motorsport Australia-accredited scrutineer
  2. Fill out the form and take some photos of your car
  3. Submit everything to Motorsport Australia
  4. Receive your shiny new log book

👊 Bottom Line

If you’re just here for fun in a bone-stock road car, great—you’re welcome.
But if you’ve got long-term plans, want to build something serious, or just want zero hassle—get a log book.

đŸš« What Happens If You Don’t Have a Log Book?

If your car falls outside the road-registered Category A spec and doesn’t have a log book, you can still run, but you’ll be placed in the Non-Log Booked class. That means:

  • You’re not eligible for the outright championship
  • You’ll be in a separate results group (alongside other similar cars)
  • You can still take home a trophy—but it won’t be in a regular VSSC class

It’s a fair way to include everyone—but let’s be real: if you’ve gone that far with your build, why not go all the way and get it logbooked?

This is state-level motorsport. Let’s treat it that way.
