VSSC Category Guide: Find Your Racing Class
Category RC – Road Car
For: Street-registered cars that are genuinely road legal. Perfect for newcomers and first-timers
Think : Your daily driver, weekend cruiser or VERY lightly modified track car that’s still road legal.
- Must be road registered (or club permit)
- Road legal tyres only.
- OEM-style ECU
- Front interior retained (rear seat may be removed where required for an approved safety cage)
Category CC – Track / Circuit Cars
For: Log-booked, production-based circuit cars, including road-registered vehicles that do not comply with Road Car regulations.
Think: Track-only versions of production cars stripped interiors, cage, proper suspension, serious intent. Good fit for track day warriors with upgraded gear.
- Must hold a Motorsport Australia Log Book
- or be a road-registered vehicle modified beyond Road Car limits
- Production-based cars with freedom to modify
- Semi-slick / treaded competition tyres only
Category OC – Race Cars / Open
For : Serious race-prepped sedans like Sports Sedans. Purpose-built race cars and open competition vehicles.
Think : Time Attack–style builds. Formula cars, Clubman, sports racers, prototypes — built to race, not resemble a road car.
- Slick tyres permitted
- High power-to-weight ratios and advanced aerodynamics
- Log-booked due to performance and safety requirements
Category HC – Historic / Classic Cars
For : Log-booked historic competition cars prepared and presented to recognised Motorsport Australia Historic specifications.
Think : Cars built to represent a specific era of motorsport, not modern cars that just happen to be old. Toranas, Mustangs, historic sports cars built to period spec.
- Must hold a Motorsport Australia Historic (Category 5) Log Book
- Vehicles prepared to period-correct specification
- Tyres must comply with Historic rules — slicks only where explicitly authorised by the historic group
Category NL- Non Logbooked
For : Track cars that are neither road registered nor Motorsport Australia log-booked, accepted at the discretion of the Organiser or VSSC Panel.
Think : Road cars that are in transition — not road legal, not fully log-booked yet.
- Eligible for Class awards only
- Not eligible for Outright or Overall awards
- This category exists to get cars on track safely not to avoid compliance.
